Mozarteum University Organizers

The Mozarteum University offers more than 40 artistic and educational courses in the fields of music, performing and visual arts. Around 2000 students from all over the world receive extensive training in numerous instrumental subjects, in composition, conducting, singing, musical theater, acting, directing, stage design, music and dance education, art and craft education and musicology. More than 500 lecturers, many of them internationally known artists and educators, pass on their knowledge and art and fill the university with lively discussion.

The history of the Mozarteum goes back to 1841 and was shaped by outstanding personalities such as Bernhard Paumgartner, Clemens Krauss, Paul Hindemith, Carl Orff, Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Sándor Végh. The Mozarteum was founded as a music school by the Salzburg Cathedral Music Association. It became a Conservatory in 1914, an Academy in 1953, a College of Music and Performing Arts in 1970, and finally a University in 1998.

With international exchange of teachers and students, scholarship programs, exchange concerts and joint projects, the Mozarteum University maintains worldwide Relationships with befriended music and art colleges.

Students and teachers are artistically active together as part of their studies. They present themselves to the public in numerous concerts, theater, dance and opera productions as well as in exhibitions, symposia and conferences and enrich Salzburg’s cultural life. In addition to intensive studies in an art-loving environment, the networks for later professional careers begin here.
